3rd ANNUAL TAKEAWAY TOURETTE
This Monday, October 23 -- Join us!
The temperatures may not feel like it yet, but Fall is here finally – and we in the Gulf Coast area are happy to say good-bye to this summer! Hurricane Harvey impacted so many of us and will continue to do so for months and longer as we rebuild and recover. Here’s hoping the Fall is quiet and regenerating.
Be sure to check out October Support Group meetings – just click on the city closest to you under Support Groups.
We also have a great Golf event on 10/23 – our 3rd Annual Takeaway Tourette. Click on the Events Page for info and to join in.
2018 will be here soon, as we are planning events for next year: Our annual GALA is January 25, 2018 in Houston and pre-sales are underway. Tee-Off for Tourette will be held Monday, February 26, 2018 at Black Hawk Country Club. And our 16th Annual Camp du Ballon Rouge children’s weekend is Friday, March 2 – Sunday, March 4, 2018. Applications will be available on-line starting in January.
It’s been a tough year for many of us, and Tourette Texas is no exception.
If you can join us in supporting our Services and Programs, we would very much appreciate it. Join us at one of our fundraising events, help solicit items for Silent Auctions – or make a cash donation of any size. Every dollar can make a difference as we continue our 30 plus years of serving those with Tourette’s and their families.
Dear Friends,
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and sound. We know that many of you have suffered terrible losses, and our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey. As you ease back into your "normal" life, please let us know if we can assist, especially as children once again return to school.
Wishing you healing and safety-
Tourette Association of Texas
Hoping our Texas families stay safe and dry during the next few days as we "welcome" Harvey to our great state.
Dear Families and Friends:
I am reaching out today for your support.
· Although we recognize the down-turn in Oil and Gas (all non-profit funding is diminished)…
· Although the summer months are historically the most impoverished…
· Although Tourette Texas has added two adjunct fundraisers over the last four years to help meet the needs of those with Tourette in Texas…
Rising costs and demand for services has placed Tourette Association of Texas in a precarious place. We are in danger of drastically cutting major August/early September programming, including “Back to School” advocacy and In-Service training across the state, as well as summer support group social events and medical/scholarship support.
Fundraising money will start flowing again in mid- to late-September. However, an entire summer quarter will be lost.
Remember that no amount is too small. If every family actively served at any given time donated $5.00, we would have $10,000!
Or, even better, if every family we have ever touched donated $5.00, we would have $300,000!
I am worried…

Back to SCHOOL often equals Back to STRESS for children with Tourette’s, their parents and their teachers. To the uniformed, symptoms of Tourette’s seem purposefully disruptive and “disobedient” to teachers. Additionally, tics and associated disorders such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and/or learning disabilities often keep a child from performing to full potential.
Mostly misunderstood, misdiagnosed and mis-treated,Tourette’s syndrome (TS) is a neurological movement disorder characterized by motor and vocal tics. Beginning in childhood, it causes those affected to make movements and noises they cannot control. Just as importantly, many experience serious self-esteem, educational and social issues due to their often puzzling, misunderstood or disruptive symptoms, leading to frustration, isolation and social anxiety.
Sheryl Kadmon, Executive Director of the Tourette Association of America – Texas Chapter, can help you and others understand this often baffling disorder and help you advocate successfully for your child in school. Learn diagnostic criteria for T.S.; categories and phenomenology of tics; associated disorders, such as OCD and ADHD; pharmacologic and other interventions; educational and social implications of the syndrome; accommodations and modifications for the classroom; and how to help prepare your children and yourself for maximum success in life.
These free presentations are perfect for parents, adults with TS, family, physicians, nurses, school personnel and teachers – anyone with an interest in learning about TS.
