Monday, October 18, 2010 Tee-Off for Tourette 16th Annual Charity Golf Event Support Groups for TSA of Texas TSA of Texas currently hosts support groups in Austin, Dallas (North Texas), Ft Worth, Katy, Houston, East Texas/Golden Triangle, Gulf Coast and San Antonio. For specific meeting locations and dates, please click on the appropriate support group button to the left or check the handy grid below. We are working to add more cites to our coverage. Coping with Tourette Syndrome: A Workbook for Kids with Tic
Disorders
Sandra Buffolano has over 25 years of experience in education as a teacher, a diagnostician, an in-home trainer, and as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Her biggest pleasure is working with families in and out of the school setting. She has volunteered at the du Ballon Rouge (camping weekend of Texas children with T.S.) for 5 years and her dedication to children and adults with Tourette Syndrome is also reflected in her volunteer work with the Tourette Syndrome Association of Texas. She conducts in-services and speaks to parents, educators, and support groups. Sandra was recently recognized as a 2008 Bell Ringer Honoree by the Mental Health America of Fort Bend County in Texas. Sandra received her Masters in Education and her Masters of Behavioral Science at the University of Houston. She lives in Sugar Land, TX with her husband Richard and two daughters. Her youngest daughter, Lauren, is her hero, and the inspiration for her newest book, Coping with Tourette Syndrome: A workbook for kids with tic disorders which is being published by New Harbinger Publications, Inc. Look for it on book store shelves and on amazon.com. Front of the Class / Brad Cohen - Watch your local Hallmark store for the DVD of “Front of the Class: How Tourette Syndrome Made Me the Teacher I Never Had.” The movie and the book of the same name are based on the true story of Brad Cohen (played by Jimmy Wolk), who was challenged with Tourette’s syndrome from a young age, but defied all odds to become a gifted teacher. Brad’s book has also recently been released in paperback.

Tourette Syndrome is a neurobehavioral movement disorder characterized by motor and vocal tics. Beginning in childhood, it causes those affected to make movements and noises they cannot control. Additionally, many are plagued by obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder, oppositional behavior and other disorders. Although medication may help control the symptoms, as of yet there is no cure. The Tourette Syndrome Association of Texas, one of the largest chapters in the country, is a 501 ( c )3 non-profit organization.
