TS AWARENESS MONTH COMING!

TS Awareness Baggies will be available for you to pick up at the meeting. Please be thinking now of who you would like to give a TS Awareness Baggie to and other ways to spread the news about Tourette’s syndrome. The children will be drawing pictures with the theme of TS during their group. We’ll have lots of drawing paper, pencils, crayons, and markers! We hope to include these in our TS Newsletter.

Notes from the April Meeting

There were 18 in attendance. Since the April meeting was just a couple of days after Daryl and Barbara returned from the TSA National Conference, Barbara shared an overview of the conference and the Trip to the Hill. Following the overview, Barbara led the group in a presentation from one of the sessions that she had attended entitled: “ When My Worries Get Too Big!” Handouts will be available at the May meeting if you didn’t make it last month. Ideas were discussed for a “School’s Out!” June meeting. It was decided to keep our regular meeting time and place at Christus St. Catherine and make it another Video Game Night for the kids. This is “no cost” entertainment and the kids love it! It allows time for the parents to visit while the kids are kept busy and the kids get to interact with each other. This time the meal is “Pot Luck.” All family members are invited and asked to bring a favorite dish. Volunteers will also be needed to provide drinks and dessert. Please contact Barbara for more information at darbar4@comcast.net.

Watch for updates soon regarding the meetings for the rest of 2008 and don’t forget to check www.tourettetexas.org regularly.

March Meeting Notes

We had 31 in attendance. Our speaker was Hal Kadmon, son of the TSA of Texas executive director, Sheryl Kadmon. Hal has Tourette’s syndrome and shared his past struggles and present successes. After talking to the parents’ group and answering various questions, Hal then spent some time visiting with the kids. The weekend camp, du Ballon Rouge was discussed and parents also had an opportunity to discuss various issues they were currently dealing with. Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, the kids made shamrock crafts and decorated cookies with icing and green sprinkles.
